Patient Privacy Court Case: January 2024

On Dec. 7, the U.S.District Court for the Southern District of Ohio Eastern Division granted final approval of a settlement agreement[1] of $1,750,000[2] for a class-action lawsuit against Marietta Area Health Care d/b/a Memorial Health System, related to a 2021 data breach. Memorial Health is a health care system that provides comprehensive medical care in Marietta, Ohio, and the surrounding region.[3] The breach affected more than 215,000 patients[4] who were notified and received a letter stating that an unknown, unauthorized third party may have accessed their information as a result of a cybersecurity attack.[5]
