NHS driving ESG reporting and accountability

England’s National Health Services (NHS) has made a bold commitment to reach carbon net zero by 2045. The NHS began this particular part of its journey in 2020 when NHS and NHS Improvement published a report that laid out ambitions to become the world’s first “net zero” national health service.[1] As part of this process, they require a Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP) for new tenders. In addition, as of January 2024 the NHS supply chain in England requires an annual Evergreen Sustainable Supplier Assessment (see Figure 1).[2]
