An introduction to Brazil's new data protection law

On August 14, 2018, the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD) was enacted, bringing several changes to the Brazilian data privacy legal framework. The LGPD is similar to the EU’s GDPR in several aspects. Unlike in Europe, where there was a solid history of data protection laws, Brazil did not have any laws specifically dedicated to personal data protection, so I reached out to my partner and an expert on the subject, Carla Couto, to give some insights.
