US targets Venezuela, Iran and Syria with further sanctions-related actions

The United States government, through the Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Department of State and the Coast Guard, issued several advisory notes and updates regarding the ongoing sanctions against Venezuela, Iran and Syria.

The most pressing document is the OFAC Advisory to the Maritime Petroleum Shipping Community that addresses petroleum shipments involving Syria and Iran. According to the advisory, shipments of petroleum to Syria are subject to U.S. sanctions and will be vigorously enforced. The document contains an overview of the sanctions against both nations, a non-exhaustive list of ships that have allegedly delivered petroleum to the government of Syria, as well as an outline of actions that could bring down sanctions:
