On Aug. 21, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin granted preliminary approval of a $12.25 million class-action settlement in a privacy case brought against Advocate Aurora Health.
Last fall, Advocate Aurora Health became one of the targets in the recent trend of litigation over online tracking technologies when several plaintiffs brought independent class-action lawsuits alleging that the use of tracking pixels was unlawful wiretapping and an invasion of their privacy. These cases later consolidated,[1] brought claims of common law invasion of privacy, violations of the federal wiretapping statute (Electronic Communications Privacy Act), and deceptive trade practices under state laws, among others.
