In royal court societies of the past, the most successful courtiers were most adept at navigating the power dynamics of the court. Writing during the High Renaissance, Baldassare Castiglione published The Book of the Courtier in 1528, in which the characteristics of the ideal courtier are discussed and debated.[1] It is a book about becoming a “Renaissance man” and trusted adviser who has the ear of the prince. Today’s ethics and compliance professionals can learn much from this political allegory to elevate their impact.
