US Food and Drug Administration announces "New Era of Smarter Food Safety"

Building on the landmark Food and Drug Administration Food Safety Modernization Act, the administration announced a blueprint for food safety going forward, including improvement in traceability using digital technologies and evolving food models. Part of the blueprint involves pilot programs “focused on tracking the movement of medicines throughout the supply chain as part of the Drug Supply Chain Security Act,” while other pilot programs work to “leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning to explore new ways to enhance the agency’s review of imported foods at ports of entry to ensure they meet U.S. food safety standards.
