US and China escalate trade war

On Aug. 1, U.S. President Donald Trump announced additional tariffs of 10% on USD 300-billion worth of imported Chinese goods. The following day, China’s Foreign and Commerce ministries each announced that the Chinese government would take necessary countermeasures, including canceling existing contracts and implementing stricter regulatory supervision of U.S. companies doing business in China.
