Two Health Care Workers’ Social Media Posts Potentially Expose PHI

Workers at two separate medical facilities have been disciplined for allegedly posting intimate details about health conditions and procedures on social media.

In the first case, a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) employee, identified by the Twitter handle @CarrieeeeC, shared a photo of a patient’s preoperative anesthesia chart notes, recorded before a Sept. 7 penile implant surgery. According to media reports, the now-deleted tweet commented on the photo, stating that a “72 y/o male gets government-funded surgery,” and included an eggplant emoji.[1]
