Transparencia Venezuela spent the last two years creating an inventory of 576 state-owned enterprises in Venezuela, and analyzing almost a quarter of them according to their impact on Venezuelans’ quality of life. The data is available on two different websites (in Spanish), but in an English-language press release, the organization listed their more important findings:
-
Most of the state-owned enterprises have negative operating results. They do not cover the needs of citizens and do not contribute with the payment of taxes or royalties to the national treasury.
-
State-owned enterprises received more than USD 500 billion from 2003 to 2015, excluding resources assigned via parafiscal funds. Despite the large sums of money, of 576 state enterprises, only 467 were operational in the fourth quarter of 2018.
