◆ Timed to coincide with a public hearing on the issue, 68 organizations, including the American Medical Association, Association of American Medical Colleges and the Association of American Universities, issued a letter on July 17 in opposition to a proposed rule published in April by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and urged its withdrawal. EPA had said the proposed rule would end “the era of secret science” by requiring that “when EPA develops regulations…with regard to those scientific studies that are pivotal to the action being taken, EPA should ensure that the data underlying those are publicly available in a manner sufficient for independent validation” (RRC 5/3/18). EPA hosted a public hearing about it on July 17 and extended to August 16 the comment period originally planned to end May 30. (7/19/18)
