The realm of research compliance navigators

Kelly Willenberg (kelly@kellywillenberg.com) is President and CEO of Kelly Willenberg LLC in Greenville, SC.

My clients are sometimes asked how to create more value for their research compliance programs. In exploring options with these clients around their operations, a new position has become useful in a research compliance program. I call it the research compliance navigator. In a research compliance model, this position could bring a level of continuity to the program while pioneering the path toward more research compliance.

Creating research navigators is being noticed as adding value to a program. The position can be a source that secures an enactment of policies by building ownership of compliance with recruiting others to become more engaged in the overall research compliance culture. This position can prioritize improved efficiency, financial benefits, patient safety, and compliance gains. Research navigators can also help to bridge gaps through strategic initiatives with empowerment while working with the staff for structured education and training.
