News Briefs: October 29, 2018

◆ Mobile Infirmary Medical Center, a 677-bed medical center in Mobile, Alabama, was overpaid $340,125 from Jan. 1, 2015, to Dec. 31, 2016, according to a Medicare compliance review. The HHS Office of Inspector General audited a stratified random sample of 100 and found errors on 13 claims, which resulted in net overpayments of $163,104. The errors were caused by incorrectly billed inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) services and outlier payments, according to OIG. In a written response, the hospital said it “disagrees with the finding that its documentation did not comply with Medicare medical necessity (coverage) and documentation requirements” on IRFs. OIG made some adjustments between its draft and final reports. Visit https://go.usa.gov/xPUAq.
