News Briefs: November 9, 2020

Clarification: The HHS Office of Inspector General will provide information about telehealth fraud to CMS that will be useful as it establishes “guardrails” and standards to protect Medicare and Medicaid now that it has widened coverage of telehealth services. A story in the Nov. 2 RMC indicated OIG would develop the guardrails and policies itself. The story has already been updated in the online version of RMC.

Recovery audit contractors said Nov. 3 they will perform complex medical reviews of deep brain stimulation (medical necessity and documentation requirements) as outpatient procedures[1] and inpatient procedures.[2]
