Most workplace investigators will never be police detectives or work for a company that specializes in investigations. Instead, you most likely work in a corporate or academic setting, and your investigation work will be just one of the company’s staff functions. When someone measures the value of your efforts, it will not be as simple as hours billed or revenue generated.
