HIPAA privacy monitoring in healthcare entities

A critical element of any effective compliance program is monitoring. Each month this column will focus on potential compliance monitors.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requires healthcare entities to be more vigilant in protecting patients’ privacy. In addition to reviewing confidentiality policies and procedures, it is important that compliance professionals monitor staff compliance.
